Bonnie and Alistair's Wedding
October 11, 2008
First off, I must thank everyone who helped us host a great wedding ceremony and two great parties! I must specifically point out a couple of people: Tom C., for the photography; Cassidy, for the awesome cheesecakes; Walt and Karen, for all their tables, chairs, linens, ideas, and patience through the last year; Anthony, for helping us make table decorations that we couldn't use; Gwendy, for staying up late with Bonnie making flowers; and of course Randi and Howard, for bringing the flowers; Kaye, Greg, and Michael, for all their input, support, and wedding day duties; and my parents for all their help plus Mum's work on the timeline. I'm sure I've forgotten someone but please know that Bonnie and I really appreciate any and all the help we got for our wedding! Thanks again!
Friday was the big set-up day for us. We got the arch prepared, the patio decorated, and chairs put in their place. Tables were next as well as some of the decorations. The timeline was an all-day affair for my Mom but the final outcome was perfect and it started a lot of conversations on Saturday. Once most of the big stuff was set-up, the rest of Friday was spent socializing. Though Bonnie and Gwendy prepped flowers and corsages late into the evening.
But Saturday morning was the time that everything had to be finished and Bonnie and I were up bright and early. With all the help we had, we knocked out all the table decorations, finished the cake table, and had just enough time to spare for Bonnie to get dressed! Once Bonnie and I were ready, Kaye called all the guests to order and Bonnie and I took our places at the altar. We waited on a few stragglers and amazingly the ceremony started at 11:04!
Kaye began by asking all of us to take a deep breath and to relax so that we could really become present to the event. Next she explained the idea of marriage and told a funny story about Bonnie and I carrying a tree. In the hands ceremony Bonnie and I hold hands as Kaye explains how these are the hands that will help and hold each other forever. This led into the ring ceremony and the exchanging of the rings. This is Bonnie's "I do!" Lastly, Kaye pronounced us as Mr and Mrs Alistair Quinn. After the ceremony we invited everyone to dig into the buffet while B. and I had our pictures taken with the new Quinn family.
The weather couldn't have been better (for Arizonians) but everyone still migrated to the shade. After everyone had a chance to get some food my Dad made a nice toast to us and told about the first time I'd brought Bonnie home to meet Mom and him.
Next it was time for dessert and the cutting of the cake. Bonnie and I were each well behaved and neither of us ended up wearing any cake. The cake cutting was pretty much the last of the planned event and the rest of the afternoon was spent talking and drinking amongst old and new friends.
The next few pages are a bulletin board of pictures from that day. Feel free to copy any pics you like and please send me your pics from that day (or trip) and I'll post them.
